Building Use Policy for Inclement Weather

The goal is clarity, safety, and flexibility for those using our church facilities while maintaining a structured approach to inclement weather closures.

1. General Closure Policy
McKendree UMC prioritizes the safety of our congregation, staff, and facility users. Decisions regarding building closures due to inclement weather will follow these guidelines:

• Weekday Closures: The church building will close whenever Gwinnett County Government offices close due to inclement weather.

• Weekend and Intraday Closures: The decision to close the church will be assessed by staff based on weather and parking lot conditions, with the senior pastor making the final decision or assigning someone to do so.

2. Full vs. Partial Closures

• Full Closure: Unless indicated otherwise, a full closure means no one may meet in the building, including renters and ministry groups.

• Partial Closure: In cases where only certain activities are canceled (e.g., worship services held but not Sunday School), renters and ministry leaders may determine whether their group will meet that day.

3. Renters and Liability Insurance

• Renters who have provided liability insurance may determine whether they will meet during inclement weather, except in the case of a full closure.

• Renters are responsible for communicating their decision to their participants.
