Acolytes and Altar Flowers

Worship is more meaningful when it reflects all of the congregation, whether the young acolyte who carries in the light of Christ, to honoring loved ones and commemorating special dates with flowers.

ACOLYTE GUILD

Acolytes remind us that Jesus Christ is the light of the world. When they bring in the light, we remember that Jesus is part of our gathering. At the end of the service, when they carry this out, they lead us in carrying out the love of Jesus into the world.

Serving as an Acolyte has always been about more than just helping with candles or carrying the cross. When you step into this role, you are stepping into a tradition that has been part of the church for centuries. The word Acolyte means “attendant.” As an attendant in Sunday worship, you might be asked to carry the cross as a Crucifer and remind us that Jesus died for us and that He is alive and with us now, or you might be asked to light candles reminding us that Christ is the light of the world, and when you carry the light out at the end of worship, it’s a sign that God’s presence doesn’t stay here in the church—it goes out with us into the world, and sometimes, you may be asked to carry banners or bells. Whatever your role, you are helping lead the entire congregation in worship and reminding us that God’s presence is here among us!

ALTAR FLOWERS

Altar flowers enhance the beauty of worship and remind that our faith is living.

Would you like to honor a loved one, or commemorate a special date by providing flowers for the altar in the sanctuary? Your name and reason for commemoration will be included in the Sunday screen announcements.

The cost of an arrangement is $75.00.

If you prefer to pay by check, contact Karla McHugh in the church office by email or call her at 770-339-9801. She will help you reserve an open date. Checks should be made out to McKendree UMC and in the memo indicate the date and who you are honoring.
